| Fifth wheel travel trailers Hey everybody -- Anybody out there pulling a fifth wheel travel trailer? I'm a little concerned about the pin weight of most 5th wheel travel trailers and was wondering if any of you good folks out there are pulling any of these with your Tundra and what you might recommend. I've got a 2009 DC with a towing capacity of 10,300 and we're getting ready to buy a travel trailer. Thanks.

| There is a guy on another forum that has been towing a 5th wheel travel trailer with a DC for a couple of years now. He has not reported any problems and he tows a lot. I sent you a PM too. This is his rig:

| I have seen a couple of Tundras on the freeway pulling 5th wheels, but I don't have any help for you...sorry. |

| The hard part about towing a 5er with a 1/2 ton truck is the tongue weight of the trailer. Add that tongue weight to the weight of all the people and cargo in the truck when loaded up for a trip. That weight should not exceed 1500 pounds. Some of the smaller 5ers will work, but most will not. You can usually get something better with a bumper pull using a WD hitch with sway control.

| thanks Thanks Tox -- I'm rapidly coming to that conclusion also. I've have seen some 5th wheels that have an acceptable pin weight, but not sure if they will be big enough for our needs. |

| Fifth wheel travel trailers We pull a Jayco 28.5RLS Eagle SuperLite 30' fifth wheel with no problems. The trailer has a pin weight of 1450, and our Tundra has a payload capacity of 1680lb. so, even though there is just the two of us, we can still add some weight on the pin and be safe. Our Tundra has the standard bed. The trailer weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 7300lb dry, with a capacity of carrying over 2,000lb so, we would still be in the Tundra's ability (ours tows 10,600lb) (Sorry I'm not at home and just going by memory). The first time the 5er was hitched to the Tundra was at the rv dealership and the guys helping us were amazed at how little the truck squatted with the full weight on it! It may have squatted close to 1 inch but that was all. We have pulled it on the highway, up hills and down and the rpms were never exceeding 1500. We are very satisfied the way the truck performs...engine and tranny temps stay normal. I don't understand the info tecarc? stated about the weight had to stay no more than 1500lb. As I said, our Tundra's payload is 1680lb, not including passengers etc. Our total weight cannot exceed 16,000lb (truck & trailer comb). Bottom line is that if you can find a 5er to fit your needs and the truck can handle, you will be much happier w/5er than a tag. Friends who have a tag went with us last time out, and we followed them and man, when an 18wheeler blew by on the 4-lane they REALLY swayed, and he has WD hitch and sway bar! We could not even feel the 18wheelers! |

| "We have pulled it on the highway, up hills and down and the rpms were never exceeding 1500" Awww, hell, I can't do that without the trailer! My 5600# HTT will run the rpm up to 3800 on steep interstate climbs with me maintaining 60MPH. |
