They even announced in August that they were going to let the FJ Cruiser die and if Pickup truck sales continue to wane I wonder if they won't do the same to the Tundra?

The news out of Nissan is that the Titan will have a Diesel and they are even still going to produce Heavy Duty models so go figure.
I don't think the Tundra is in any immediate danger of being discontinued, unless the economy gets really bad.
Tundra sales were only down 8% in August, about 1500 trucks compared to last year, although Toyota is not making nearly as much per truck.
It looks like Tundra sales will easily pass last years #'s. As of the end of August 107,330 Tundras were sold, 124,909 were sold last year in the 10.5 months they were available. That is only a 14.5% drop in sales. Other truck companies would be happy with those #'s.
The FJ, on the other hand has seen their sales crash, although their sales were never that high to begin with.
They only sold 1866 in August, a 60.7% decrease in sales.
Toyota has only sold a little over 20k FJ's this year compared to nearly 40k last year.A 48.2% drop in sales.
Having said that, nothing is sacred, except maybe the Land Cruiser, its sales are up 88.9% this year, they sold 245 in August and 3,017 total for this year.

I'm sure glad I didn't wait to buy my Diesel because at 34,000 miles I couldn't be happier.

Ya sqid,

Nissan is picking up the small 6 cylinder diesel from Navistar that was going to go in the Ford F-150, but with the break up between Ford and Navistar, Ford is using an in-house 4.4 6 diesel for the F-150........

I agreen though Sqid, I was bitchin about Toyota but you can't blame them with all the changes to 2007 and new Diesels they cost so much and will cost to replace the emisions when they go way before the engine does.........

I guess I'l just love my 5.7 gas.......

They are now saying the engines will be Cummins since Nissan and Chrysler are in bed together. PickupTrucks.com: Future Truck - 2011 Nissan Heavy Duty Pickup

Sounds like Nissan is going to offer small Cummins in 1/2 ton and the big in-line six diesel like the Ram has for 3/4 and 1 tons.

I live about 8 miles from the Canton, MS plant they are talking about getting the $118 million make-over, this should get interesting around here!

Oh, I just thru that out there about the Tundra because Toyota seems to have taken a whole new philosophy concerning the future of automobiles in less then a year. Announcing the end of the FJ, scraping the Supra and now ditching the notion of a diesel and I assume Heavy Duty Tundra doesn't bode well for anything in the low to mid MPG range to me.
