Has this been reported in an '09 or has it supposedly been corrected? I am hearing a noise in mine that fits this description but can't track it down. It's not severe, but is noticable at 20 mph, but it SEEMS to be while coasting or at steady throttle.

If you can reproduce it consistently, then you can report it to the dealer and let them hear it while you drive.

I am concerned that they will try to blame it on the lift.

Which lift do you have? You could take the lift off and then take the truck in.

That's what I would have to do if this becomes an issue.

I am truly amazed that there has not been a full recall on this front differential problem. I just traded in a 2007 Tundra 4.7 Double cab that had the front differential 'wu wu wu' growl issue at 15-20 mph. It was fixed under warranty. I bought a 2008 Tundra CrewMax and it currently (July 2009) has 4500 miles on it and it just started the 'wu wu wu' growl issue that I'm now very familiar with - back to the dealer I go. This is more than a coincidence. Toyota: Front Differential Recall Please!

Recalls are typically reserved for dangerous issues.

My truck is the same as your '07. I now have > 81K miles on it and have not had this problem with the front diff. Maybe I got lucky or maybe it is not a widespread problem. Sorry you had problems with yours x 2.

fFont diff. ..how loud was your wu wu wu befoe replacing

I know this has been beat to death but I haven't been able to find an answer after searching. For those of you with front diffs replaced can you tell me how loud your humming noise was before you took it in? After our big a** storm I used 4x4 and am now getting the wu wu sound after re-engaging 2 wd. I have tried all the cures, ie: switching in and out of 4hi, backing up, etc.

I had this happen last year but the aforementioned tricks cured it. Not this time. Like you, I love this truck and am bummed when something goes wrong but hey, that's why we have warranties, right? Anyway, if you could tell me how loud it was and at what speed you heard it I can decide whether or not to take it in yet. I have a 1600 mile trip coming up this week through some nasty weather and will be using 4wd. Don't want to screw anything up worse than it is. Thanks.
