Trany

Working on 2000 4wd Tundra It has trany fluid getting into the radiator. Any idea how this could happen? It causes the overflow to run all over the front of truck. Had to add 3 qts trany fluid.

Do you have a transmission cooler? Usually a transmission cooler uses the radiator for the cooling.

On the new Tundras, doesn't the truck use the engine coolant to warm up the 6 speed transmission fluid to operating temperature faster? Wonder if they did that in the 5 speed as well. A blown gasket maybe? Is there a gasket anywhere between the two fluids?

almost all automatic trans use the radiator as a cooler or in some cases a warmer . the rad, has a holding tank or tube or can for trans fluid . i think yours has sprung a leak inside the rad.You can go to a outside cooler cheaper than replacing the rad.just close off lines in the rad so anti freeze dosent leak out.

Sounds to me like a bad radiator. I am a toyota tech and im pretty sure that the cooler is built into the radiator on the 2000 models.

^^ What he said.... radiator likely has a leak between the tranny cooler portion and antifreeze/water portion.

I pretty sure they didn't do that on the 1st gen tundra...........I belive the only trans Warmer/ Cooler is in the 6 speed.....The 5 speed dosen't have it on the current 4.7...it is just a cooler.
