The leak was around the pumpkin. It was a very slow leak. I just pulled the breather extension off so I wouldn't have any problems getting it fixed under warranty. Here's some pictures of the leak in the following thread:

Differential breather

Good info Tox, When I removed the plug to check the fluid level, there was a vacuum in the pumpkin. The truck had not been driven so it wasn't because of expansion or contraction, the breather / check valve was stuck. I also checked to make sure moisture hadn't been sucked into the differential. I took the valve apart and "fixed" it but your idea is too cool not to do the same on my truck....Another filter that might be used is an "end breather" that is the same size as the inline you used. I install them on the Harley's I service to alleviate head pressure and when re-routing the breather tubes.

humm i wonder if thats why i got noise in my differential never thought of that dont know if iv'e been in deep enough water but could be the prob.
