    Debadge Steps with pics

Disclaimer #1: compared to the other DIY threads here, this is tame. But for someone like me who was apprehensive about debadging, I thought a thread with pictures like this would help others.

Disclaimer #2: This truck is new so my results may not be the same as on an older truck, though everything I read before doing my debadge indicated its not a big deal. However whatever you do to your truck is your responsiblity yada yada yada...

    Reference: http://www.toyotatundraforum.com/tun...-debadged.html
And you can search for "debadge" and find other threads

Step 1: I started with the smallest emblem, the Toyota on the tailgate. I used a piece of kite string. Others have used fishing line, all I had was kite string. I had great results. Cut a piece about 2-feet long and hook it behind a letter. Pull the string back and forth to act as a knife. It will cut through the adhesive pretty easy if you don't get in a hurry.

After the string has completely cut the adhesive, use an old credit card to gently pry from one side to the other and the badge will pop off.

    Step 2: remove the adhesive

Others have reported the adhesive stayed mostly on the badge, I had the opposite results. The badge was clean and the adhesive was all on the truck.

You may find the use of a hair dryer helps, but I didn't need one. It has been in the 90-degree range every day for a month. I was able to use my fingers to roll and peel the adhesive into one ball. Very little residue was left on the vehicle. My fingers got pretty sore and I had to take a few breaks. Others have posted about using a buffing wheel for removing pin stripes. If you have an older truck or the weather is cold you might need something like that.

Not shown here is a close up of after I used WD-40 to eliminate the adhesive. Use a thin shop rag so you can feel the little glue bumps and give the WD-40 time to work. It took almost no elbow grease to remove everything. Dry with paper towel. When finished, wash and wax.

After the tailgate was done I was much more comfortable about tackling the sides of the truck. I'll include all the pictures here to speed things up.

Here is the after pics, and one of the truck with badges.

I was apprehensive about doing this to a brand new truck because I didn't want to mess it up. After the great advice of other members here I decided to tackle it. I like the look, and I like that it's different than a stock truck.

An added benefit is not having that dirt in the letters that accumulates with time, along with the pain of trying to clean wax out after the effort it takes to wax.

Nice pics. I think it's better when most of the sticker stays on the truck, makes it easier to remove them. Try pulling up the edge of the sticker and stretching it away from the rest of the sticker. It will come out fairly easily. You just have to keep regrabbing the sticker close to the truck as you go. No sore fingers too.
Any questions about truck mods I have done need to be asked in the forums. Don't send me a private message about mods cause I probably won't answer that PM unless there is money involved.
