My in-town mileage has dropped to low 12's to upper 13's, with no agressive driving on my part.. ?Would like to hear some others inputs. My 5.7L 08 only has about 2800 miles on it right now. Long-Bed, Club Cab 4x4.......

After you get over 7000 miles on your truck you should start to see better milage. Also adding a CAI now might save you some gas while your braking it in.

gears!

Dropping the ratio(number) or putting in a higher gear will increase milage to a point until the engine can't turn the drive shaft if you go way high. That being said you have to remember the 5.7 has very low gears because is has the 6 speed tranny that has 2 over drive gears and even 4th gear is a 1:1 ratio, so you get a super low 1st to pull with but the 6 speed with 2 over drive gears is really giving you a high gear that most other trannys don't have.

Be careful if you plan on changing gears. I would not go much more that from the 4.30 on the towing to the 4.10 on the none towing package trucks.

I think the #1 overlooked gas saver is wheel alignment/balance and/or tire pressure.
IMHO, Probably not a single mod will give you as big a $ return in both mpg and tire life as properly inflated tires.

Slowing down definetly pays off, thats why I've got a camry to drive when I wanna save gas. My D Cab 5.7 gets 13.9 avg. city, but my pedal is always down at the floor, I'm still pretty happy with that.. but at least I'm the fastest on my streets.. hehe

Those of you that drive below the posted speed limit are not only a nuisance, but also a DANGER to everyone else on the road. You are forcing law abiding citizens to go out of their way to pass you. As a motorcycle rider, it's VERY scary to see vehicles changing lanes.

The laundry list of things to increase your gas mileage: Set your tire pressures a couple psi below the max pressure on the side wall, keep your cruise set at the speed limit, use the transmission to downshift for engine braking instead of applying the brakes (causes fuel cut), maintain a higher speed through corners (requires less accelerating to get back up to speed), and finally plan ahead: if you see stopped cars ahead coast up to them instead of running up behind them and hitting the brakes.

Oh, one more thing that's generating some publicity is to remove a carbon screen from the intake tract, located in the top of the airbox just after air filter. I've removed it on my truck, but I'm not yet convinced if they generate an increase in mileage. Currently I feel it is worth ~.2mpg, but I won't know until I can do another highway trip and check mileage (in town driving is too variable).

I agree with the driving below the speed limit. I get annoyed when someone merges onto the interstate going a whooping 45 mph. To make matters even better, they usually just come on over without ever looking. It is a danger and a nuisance.
I do disagree with the tire pressure though. I thought higher tire pressures, just not exceeding max pressure, gave better mpg. Less of a contact patch so less friction. Am I wrong?

More pressure is better for mpg. Did I mistype in my original post? The reason I say to set the pressure a couple psi below max pressure is to allow for hot days and heating of the wheel/tire. Your pressures can increase 5psi from cold to hot very easily. Just having your truck sitting in the sun can increase the pressures 2 psi.

Now that makes sense.
