Apparently some (like me) have reported increased mpg (albeit not dramatic increases.... mostly in the 1-1.5 mpg) with the CAI, others have not. I suspect it depends in large part on how you drive the truck. I tend to baby mine around most of the time, avoiding jack-rabbit starts, and run 72-75 mph on the highway. At my apparent improved mpg, I figure the Volant will pay for itself in under 30,000 miles.

All I have done is put the CAI and a connector to the MAP senser and the best I get is 14 to 19 depending on how heavy my foot is.60mph and below better the milage but with my foot in it about 14mpg.

Nitrogen

Use Nitrogen, more stable, no increase in pressure during high speed travel and hot days,, less maintenance, that is unless you run over something !

I just got a scangauge, and I was surprised at how you can easily get 25 - 30 mpg at 40-45mph just keeping a steady foot. If you are just slightly up and down with the pedal, the mileage decreases quickly. Also, terrain makes a significant difference.

I haven't had a long highway trip with the scangauge yet, but from what I've seen so far, it probably depends more on how steady you are with your foot than anything else.

I've been able to average about 18.5 without the scangauge, but I can already tell I was using some false assumptions about what saves gas and I think I will easily be able to get over 19 with the scangauge. I'm really shooting for 20mph though, so hopefully my newfound knowledge will do the trick.

So far I have only been able to get 20mpg on one tank of gas that was mostly a highway trip out of town and back. I used cruise control at the speed limit on that trip with no other fuel saving tricks. I was at 60-65 all the time.

Also, I did find out that if you don't use the recommended 5w-20 or 0w-20 then you will lose about 1 - 1.5 mpg. I noticed an immediate drop in fuel economy after my first oil change at the dealer. I had to ask specifically for 5w-20 at my next oil change, and I also showed them the manual to make sure they got it. When they came to tell me my truck was ready, the service guy said they put my "special" oil in it. This was a Toyota dealership too, so don't trust they know what to put in it.

Gas Milage

Kevo, thanks for the info on the oil change. I didn't think that made any difference at all. I got my truck about 2 weeks ago and on the 1st 2 tanks I got 18.3 and 18.8 and I was JUMPING UP AND DOWN FOR JOY. Of course that was highway driving with the 5.7 4x4 but still better than my '02 2.7 4cyl Tacoma with 33's with 302,000 miles on it (AND STILL RUNNING STRONG) getting only about 16.5 at best. It's my understanding that 2-wheel drive is going to get better mileage than a 4wheel drive so I'M ok with that.

Yeah, the 2WD will be a bit easier on fuel than a 4WD, but as long as you only run 4WD when you need it, it shouldn't be too much of a difference. I'd guess .5mpg. I don't think it makes as much of a difference on the highway. Starts and stops are the big downer for mpg's. Once you're rolling at speed it should be similar.

I really don't like seeing the instant mpg on the scangauge right as I take off. The numbers are really low. It's in the 1's and 2's. I have really enjoyed seeing 30mpg traveling down a nice flat stretch of road at about 45mph though. I'm not brave enough to drive on the highway at 45, and I'm not sure it's legal either, but it would be fun to see what kind of mileage you could get doing that.

last summer when gas was pushing $4 i was really driving to get mileage 55 to 60 mph, I was getting (best) 20 to 21 If wind wasn't to bad, that don't happen much out here in W. Ne. Anyway differant story this year driving a little faster and don't think about mileage to much and am getting 17 to 18 and less sometimes. I always figure my mileage with a calulator but the one on the truck is very close 1 or 2 tenths one way or the other most times. Its a 4x4 5,7 limited I havn't done anything to it its stock as they come. it has 16,400 miles on it.

ya its ate a few hemi's
