I agree with most of what you said, but I don't think you will get better fuel mileage and more horsepower at the same time. If you are driving for fuel efficiency, the OE CAI is about as good as it will get.

Your statement on the gears though I think is spot on. I'd trade some towing capacity for highway mileage with gearing. If anyone knows where to get that done or if parts are available I'd appreciate a link or some real world experiences with mileage.

Yo won't get better mileage and horsepower at the same time, but any modification that reduces a restriction will allow for more power at wide open throttle, and then at part throttle and cruising the lesser restriction will allow for better gas mileage. Many people have noticed both power and fuel economy improvements with a CAI, but some have not. It depends on many factors.
