| Synthetic oils I'm getting ready to switch all the oils over to synthetic. What do you use and why? Is there any specific brands of synthetic to avoid? Anyone use Amsoil? It's by far the easiest to get(although not cheap)around here. TIA!

| I just switched to Redline synthetic oil based on a recommendation from a few people that have used it for years and swear by it. One of the friends has worked in the auto supply/parts business for many years and the other has been a mechanic all of his working years. Both are in their late fifties now. I haven't changed the oil in my Tundra yet because it only has 400 or so miles on it. I plan to go with the Redline synthetic on the first oil change though. Good luck and let us know what you go with and what you think of the change.

| Right now I am using Castrol GTX dino oil, I have enough left for one more oil change, then I will switch to Mobil 1. The only reason I going to use Mobil 1 is that is easy get where I live. I have only heard good things about Amsoil, but they want $15 quart here, compared to $5 for Mobil 1. Call me cheap, but I will not spend $15 for any oil.

| I just got done changing my oil with synthetic. I use Mobil 1 and have for years. I have used it in my stock cars and have been very impressed. I have it in all my vehicles. I even changed out the rear diff fluid to get ready for pulling camping trailer on vacation. I too had just a small amount of metal debris on my diff drain plug (normal). This rear diff should last forever with a capacity of 4 quarts! The only thing that caugh my attention was upon removing the drain plug for the rear diff, I heard a vacuum sound. The diff housing was actually in a vacuum state! The first thing I did was to remove the housing vent to make sure it wasn't plugged or defective. What I found was the vent is actually a one way check valve that will allow vapors/pressure to excape, but close off as to not allow water or debris in. I've never noticed this before on any of my other Toyotas. Maybe something new???

| My Titans had the same one way valve on the rear diff. Both my front and rear diffs on the Tundra were under pressure. The Titan had a vent hose for the front diff that was attached to the engine compartment. I never looked to see where the front diff. vent was on the Tundra. One thing you have to watch for with these types of valves is that they can get plugged with mud, so it is a good idea to check and see if you have mud caked on the valve once in awhile. Some of the Titan guys have put a hose on the rear vent and attached somewhere to the frame or bed, some have even put a filter on the end of the hose to prevent dust and dirt from going down the hose. |

| I run Mobil 1 extended 15,000 mile oil and even though it's not in a Tundra (Still deciding) it is in a 5.6L engine with over 101,000 miles. The thing I like about synthetic is that for someone like me who drives 3000 miles a month I can go the max miles allowed by the manufacturer without worrying no matter how I use the truck. After the warranty is over I just have a couple oil analysis done until I find the max distance the oil will go for my driving environment which in the case of the 5.6L is 13,000 miles between oil changes.
