Changing the oil in the 5.7L is not for the squeamish as you are going to get some oil on your hands, lol! One can always use rubber gloves (as long as the oil's not TOO hot!).

Sorry bigdoughy, I have to respectfully disagree. You can buy two 5 quart jugs of Mobil 1 5W-20 from Wally world for about $46 plus $5 or so for an OEM oil filter (or aftermarket) and because you have 2.5 quarts left, the next time you change the oil you only have to have a 5 quart jug of Mobil 1 plus filter for $28 or so for a total of $74+/- for 2 oil changes. The way I figure it, that's roughly 1/2 of what you're paying, plus I get to drink a few beers while changing the oil and, I get the pleasure of doing my own work on my own truck at the same time, lol!

$72 for the oil change sounds way too much. I spent $4 on the OEM filter and $40 for two 5 quart jugs of Mobile 5w20.. Wally World is the cheapest when it comes to oil. Plus they have beer a few isles over.

someone in an earlier post asked whether or not it's bad that the oil level is just over the full mark. well when i've gotten it serviced at the dealer(free oil changes) i always checked the level after they were done and it was always about 1/4 in over the full mark so i'd ask them why it's over and they would always respond that they put 7.5 quarts in and that it's fine. When i changed my oil today i accidentaly put 8 quarts in so i had to drain a little bit. When i check it's pretty much at the same spot it was when the dealer did it. My oil pressure is either at the middle or slightly above/slightly below depending on acceleration. At cruise speed its barely below the middle line. I hate these type of dipsticks and always will,......they suck which is why my job in the Air Force has gotten rid of them and replaced them with a more sturdy easier dipstick. $44 for two 5qt jugs of mobil 1 5w20 at walmart and $3.50 for oil filter at dealership with a coupon they send out every month.....$13 for air filter also with a coupon. My dealership sends out coupon books for all kinds of service needs. i'll keep the ones i don't need and mail them to anyone wanting any.

My dealer puts in 8 quarts. I have to tell them to put in 7.5 quarts.

I am new to the forum since I just purchased a 2010 Tundra. Thanks for the useful information on oil changing. I have been changing oil for over 40 years and this one is the most challenging. I highly recommend a fluid evacuator MTY-MV7201 Fluid Evacuator Plus by Mityvac 7201 2.3 gallon (8.8 litre) - tooldesk.com. With this unit, I removed ALL the oil in the eliminating the need to remove the drain plug. The filter is still a pain though.

The only thing I would worry a little about using the Fluid Evacuator is leaving metal shavings, if any, in the bottom of the oil pan, as pulling the oil pan plug tends to sweep any shavings into the drain container. Then again, maybe I just don't have a good understanding of how the evacuator works.

Does anyone use Pennzoil Platinum? I just ran across this, and was wondering what some of you thought.
