    Tundra Winch Mount Bumpers

Over the last year or so I've received numerous emails from Tundra owners asking if we offer a winch mount bumper similar to our FJ or Tacoma bumpers. Sad to say we have not created any. However, I intend to remedy that now.

While some prefer a full replacement bumper there are some that wish to retain the factory looks and MPG but would like to have a winch. This is where we step in. As with the 2012+ Tacoma we offered a solution that enables several things:

    1. Winch mounting
    2. Light tabs
    3. Recovery points
    4. Skid plate protection

Until we get in to this a bit deeper I'll have to see how this plays out in regards to skid plate functionality I don't see any issue with the first 3 items.

As I see this, and correct me if I'm wrong, looking at the bumpers on the 2007-2013 Tundras they all seem to be the same until 2014.

I imagine we'll knock out the 07-13 first with the 14 right on it's heels.

My initial thought is to build a bumper that will replace the black plastic in the middle and of course the inner bumper tube. The bumper mount extensions will likely need to go so we can mount direct to the frame horn pads and the existing studs.

It looks like the factory chrome cover has the bottom strip made on to the cover, not bolted on and we have some flanges on the inner left and right portions that need to be dealt with.

My goal is to create a bumper that can literally be inserted through opening, with the chrome cover still mounted, and bolted to the frame. Obviously the mechanics of doing so still need to be evaluated. My initial 'crawl under the truck' measurements show to have plenty of room for most any winch with enough width for up to 6" lights on each side of the winch. (keep in mind LED lights are deep and if you want them flush with the front of the bumper they need open space behind them or they will hit the winch)

I have a fab/engineering shop in west Fort Worth that we use to R&D this stuff and here is how this works...

I need a volunteer truck. We do NOT cut on your truck. If we think a bumper needs to be cut on we purchase a used one and remove yours during the design process, then reassemble when finished. If we break bolts/mounts/clips we replace them. We will create an initial rough design, send it to the shop for reverse CAD then an initial 'production prototype' is built. Once we have the proto then we bring the volunteer truck back in and see how it fits. We almost always make some adjustments/changes and send those to CAD then build a 'final production prototype' which requires one more fitment.

In return for the use of the truck, typically 2 days the first time then half a day or so the last 2 fittings, you will receive a FREE bumper once they go in to production.

Also, when I work with forum members in the design...and yes, this is your chance for input, in return for your participation I will offer a group buy, at a discounted rate of course, for the members only...not the general public. Typically I'll offer some sort of package deal if you want...with discount pricing on winches/lights, etc. We'll cross that bridge later.

So, let the fun begin. I'd like to have some feedback from you guys and maybe a volunteer or two that are local to west Fort Worth. No schedule set just yet but I'd like to get the design work done sooner than later....before Christmas for sure.

Once the 07-13 design work is done then we can start on the 14+.

As far as I have seen, the 07-13 bumpers are all the same. I do think there might be a problem with installing your bumper without removing the stock chrome bumper. The chrome bumper is mostly cosmetic, especially on the Limiteds which are plastic. The inner aluminum bumper is the one that will be in the way of a winch and I don't think that will come out easily. Or at least that's what I recall when I changed my bumper. The skid plate shouldn't be a problem. The front hooks go into a cross member on the frame.
Any questions about truck mods I have done need to be asked in the forums. Don't send me a private message about mods cause I probably won't answer that PM unless there is money involved.

Well... let me clarify, yes, you will need to pull the chrome shell to remove the bumper tube but I'm thinking that maybe... just maybe, you could install the shell then our bumper, but there's problems with that too... installing the winch.

Part of the problem is the cross strap at the bottom of the shell and the uglinesss that gets exposed on the left/right of the opening of the shell after you remove the plastic.

But that doesn't necessarily mean you can't install our bumper first the slide the shell over it in some manner. I like to keep the cutting to a minimum.

We could run your truck up there and leave it Trooper. Sure would look bad-arsed to have the bumper and winch in your truck!

Doesn't look like there's a lot of volunteers and it would be a shame to not put up a truck for this. Jump on it for the team.
