| Fitting Volant and Foam Gasket This is info from Danny that I thought might be helpful. "The space between the intake box and the Fender Well (where the stock intake draws its air) is there for a reason. With the flexing of the body and the torque of the motor that space is provided to adjust for the movement of all those components the problem that may surface by securing the box to the fender is the silicone hose that mounts on the Throttle Body could come loose or the box could break at the modified mounting point. There is truly no benefits to sealing the box to the fender the reason a gasket is supplied is for the scoop that we are working on to secure to the box making a seal see attached image of our PowerCore Tundra with Scoop installed." ![]() ![]() ![]() "I saw this image (foam gasket above) the problem could be two fold A) the gasket never sealed correctly on the intake box have that member call me and Ill replace it - B) the intake box is rubbing the inner fender wall in this case I would adjust the box slightly away for the wall to avoid the rubbing. " "Just a heads up the foam gasket like I said is there only for the scoop that we are in the closing stages of offering. The gasket has no real use for those running the air intake. So for the members having issues have them remove the gasket for those want to have that gasket have them drop me an email and Ill send out a replacement. And let me reiterate about the gap between the fender and the box its there for movement of the motor, by fix mounting the intake to the fender, you could run the risk of the silicone hose breaking loose from the throttle body causing irreversible damage to the injectors and the motor what little engine heat that could pass through or even get through to that opening will not affect the performance of the kit. For those looking to modify that box by placing a new mounting point please be aware that if the box was to break or crack etc etc and the cause was the mod, you could risk voiding the warranty. Please be aware that we want you to be happy with our products and Volant has put hundreds of hours developing that system, modifying our kit or any kit could cause problems." | Thanks Tony.... guess this answers my question about whether mpg might be affected by an improper fit of the Volant at the fender well!

| OK folks... first let me make it clear that I absolutely love my Volant. That said, I have noticed that my gas mileage has continued to slowly erode over time with the Volant, as I'm now averaging less than 16 mpg on the highway from a high average of mid-18's when the Volant was first installed (or for a few tanks of gas after I reset the truck's computer). So, yesterday, after I changed the oil and rotated the tires, I thought I'd try a little experiment. I reinstalled the stock airbox, reset the computer and will run the stocker for a few tanks and see what my gas mileage does. I'm also trying to talk my mechanic brother in law in doing some tests on my truck with his engine analyser on both the stock and Volant airboxes after initial install (and computer reset) and then follow-up tests several tanks later to see what is going on with fuel mix and the multiple O2 sensors in the truck over time. After discussing this issue with him last night (over ice cold beer, hickory smoked pork ribs, brisket, turnip greens and buttermilk cornbread at his house, lol!), he is speculating that the truck's computer might be slowly "learning" the cooler and increased airflow from the Volant and thus, over time is "riching up" the fuel mixture to compensate, thus resulting in decreased mpg over time. If we are able to prove this up, then I would think that means that until we can get a tuner to address this issue, it will continue to be a problem on mpg over time with the Volant. Danny, you have any thoughts on what might be going on? |

| You could just reset the computer every few weeks and make it start the learning process over.

| Thought about that Josh (and have done it twice already), but this is really more of an experiment to try to see what's going on with the Volant. Also, resetting the computer means resetting all of my favorite stations on the Pioneer AVIC (FM, AM and Satellite), all of my saved locations for the GPS and of course the truck's clock. Not really that big of a deal, but still a pain! |
| ||||
| I have noticed the exact same thing. I thought at first it was because I had gone on a trip towing my trailer but since the trip is over the mileage has steadily gotten worse. COME ON DIABLOSPORT!!! Hook a brutha up!

| I reset mine recently and it resulted in worse mpg for some reason. Then it went back to my normal 14.5 average. Your saved NAV points should not reset when disconnecting the battery. Mine never do. I will lose saved radio stations but not NAV destinations.
