If it were me and I was going to travel a couple hundred miles bring it home I would have new tires.
Actually, trailer wheels are readily available and not that expensive, I would pick it up with a sm floor jack, 4 new tires mounted & ready to go, and a tub a wheel bearing grease as insurance......

Wow, 20 year old tires on a trailer.....sounds like a mess waiting to happen........I change travel trailer tires at least every 5 years max.....They just dry rott.....I bought the trailer I have now and the tire side walls were craked and I knew they needed to be replaced but I thought what the hell about an 80 mile trip camping to break her in and then I'll replace the tires...........WELL 30 minutes into the trip at highway speed and I had a blow-out that blew the second tire on the same side and the spare was basically flat and after a piece of crap, too small spare from wal mart and fix-a-flat in the spare that came with the trailer and unhooking to get to wall mart and back to the trailer on the highway at dusk on Friday night and changing tires and cussin like a wild man and wife and kids scared to look at me......................

Sorry...

Anyway, always new tires for TOYS and things that sit forever.............it's well worth the dough!!!!!!!!!!!

I think it falls under one of Murphy's laws.

I think Good Sam recommends replacement every 7 years for regular travelers. I would agree with that.
Here's a link from Goodyear that kind of sums it up

OK, I got a question. I ran across a review of a tire and they mentioned the tire being made in a 12-segment mold. So how about a lesson on tire production and the advantages of extra segments or anything else in the production? Like do they help with ride? Balance? Tread life? I dunno what else.

I have a problem with one of my tires on my new Tundra. I thought i noticed a slight vibration in the steering wheel after a day or two. I gave the tires a lookin over and noticed small 'chunks' missing from the tread on one of the tires (drivers side front). They are on the outside tread line, one is about the size of a pen cap, inch long/quarter inch wide, not quite as deep as the tread. The other piece is smaller, half inch/half inch apprx. and not quite as deep. (wish i could post pics, but just couldnt get the spots to show up good in the pics). Found another one on the other front tire, smaller but easily visable.

My question is this: Is this covered under warranty? Would this be defective material/workmanship? If so, does it have to go to dealer, or will any authorized michelin tire shop be able to warranty it? Was going to go to my usual 'tire guy' for a balance, but i wasnt sure if it had to go through the dealer for warranty on the tires. I dont know if it makes a difference or not, but i live on a gravel road. Would this be whats causing this? Should i just expect this kind of thing to happen? Never noticed it on my other cars, but they arent brand new like this one.

I've had my Tundra for about 7,300 miles now (since Feburary 2008) and the other day the inside of the front passengar tire just split. On the side wall from tread almost to the rim it just split over night. I don't do any off roading of any kind and I'm just baffled by this. I got a deal on a replacement tire for $92.00 including labor, but still a pain. Not to mention having the change a tire 150 feet from my front door.
