Tire Question?

I am going to need some new tires for my 07 CM and am starting the research process so I have some questions. I have the 275/55/20 tire on the Toyota Carved Wheel ( I think it is either 8 or 8.5 wide) and would like to go a little wider with the tire. The Sparks Toyota site shows an optional tire for this wheel is a 305/50/20, I 've looked at some of the tire calculators and they show very little difference in revs per mile, tire height etc so I assume there would be no need for speedo re-calibration. Is this tire size the only option as far as going wider but not taller, I don't really want to lose sidewall height making the "rubber band" on a rim look or have to re-calibrate my speedo, so what are my options?

I think you have pretty nailed the size (305/50R20) to go wider without going higher. According to spec it will fit on a 8.5" wheel. No need to worry about the speedo.
There is over 10 different treads to choose from. Not much snow in TX, so that narrows it down a little. Eagle GT, Michelin, many others.

I can't seem to be able to confirm the actual width of the wheel, so if the wheel is only 8" wide will that create any problems going with the 305? As far as tread I guess i'm looking for a sport/performance type tire that performs good wet and dry because we have a pretty good mix of both down here on the Gulf Coast, oh I have a 2WD so I guess that narrows it down a little further. A friend suggested the Yokohama Prada Spec X, any opinion on those or suggestions on others to take a look at?

I don't know if you called your Toy dealer if he could tell you your wheel width?
If it is 8" - You would be just barely outside the spec and most likely would have no problems. But, as a "Tire Guy" I have to tell you going outside wheel spec is not recommended.
I don't have much experience with those Yoko's. I know Goodyear has the Eagle GTII & their new Fierce tires in that size. Goodyear is the Best Company I've ever dealt with for warranties and customer satisfaction.
Your best bet is to find a local tire dealer you trust. They should be able to recommend a tire that fits your needs and provide service. What I mean by service is, regular tire rotations @ n/c, alignment which is very important for tread life, and warranty should you need it.
If you chose to buy off the net just remember you would need to take your tires to a local shop and pay for install and future tire rotations.
