New Michelin LTX MS2

I need replacement of my 07 Tundra OEM tires P275/65/R18 (BGS Dueler HT 30K). Michelin LTX MS2 is a new model tire available Sept '09 and my local tire dealer said to wait and buy it as it will beat all other brands for all round durability, traction, ride, etc. The AT2 is another option Is it comparable to the new MS2 in plys, ride, etc. Which would be best for Colo/Utah mountain conditions w/ snow on roads most of the winter? MS2 is a costly tire - are there better alternatives?

Hey Raz
The new Mich are suppose to be top shelf. Michelin makes one of the best riding & wearing tires on the market. Some customers have complained about their winter traction. I assume it's due to their long wearing rubber compound. That said, I can't say how the new Michelin will do in the snow.

Goodyear has the Silent Armors which are also very good, and expensive.

There are some less expensive alternatives. Firestone has the Destination AT.

Just keep in mind, Generally more traction equals more noise and less tread life. Its a give and take.

On the subject of Mich's. Mine have less than 10k on them and they have tiny little "cracks" near the wheel all the way around the tire...kind of like they are drying out?? Is that a problem? I have never seen it before on any other tires I've owned.

Grim
Sounds like you have some weathering. Normally it's just cosmetic and will not take the tire out of service.

I don't believe Mich warranties weathering/ozone cracking but you should ask your local Michelin dealer or call cust service 1-800-847-3435

BUT
If it starts looking like this --- that's a problem that needs immediate attention.

yes, but the banker might look at those and see a good expenditure for some newer bigger tires, you know for the safety of the kids and all........... wink wink........

The little cracks can be caused by over use of Armor All and similar tire shine products. A friend of mine bought a brand new (25miles) vehicle off the showroom floor (where the tires received a daily dose of Armor All for about 6 months), after about 100 miles the little cracks started showing up all over on the sidewalls. The dealer complained, but gave him a new set of tires.

Thanks Bill, that's what it looks like and they've never seen even the outside of an Armor All bottle.

Beer, I like your thinking. That just might work!

Does anyone have any feedback on these tires? I have been looking around for a set of tires for my '07 Tundra DC and I think I am going to go with these new MS2.

I was going to get the MS2, but they won't be available here until the spring. Dealer called Michelin Canada and inquired.

I couldn't wait till spring so I went with the AT2. Just got them yesterday but so far they are great.
