TPMS problem

I was a bit taken when I found the price of the sensors was more than what I paid for alloy take offs. Try this link Revolution Supply Co. - TPMS Sensor Bracket - Tire Pressure Sensor Accessory
The bracket system clamps the sensor to the rim inside the tire and is used only as the sensor, just install a new valve stem and you are done.

I wish I would have known this thread existed ohh about 3 weeks ago... I bought some OEM SR5 wheels off ebay for 299... good deal I thought. I also thought the TPMS & Lugs would swap over as well being same wheel size. Not so much!

I had my wheels installed today at Toyota for 146.00 When I went to pick up the truck I was told that it would be another 215.00 for the lugs!! I left only to return to get them as they need this special lug with a shaft and washer so your rims dont get messed up and or fall off the truck while driving. The lugs from the styled steel wheels will not work nor the TPMS.

I think I can live with the TPMS light on all the time, new 20 degree monitors will run ya at least 100 from the dealer and I'm not crazy about spending 500.00 on plastic sensors.

Moral to the story.... when you see wheels for 299 a set on ebay think twice and call your local dealer! They may have take off's in stock. Mine did come to find out 50.00 a wheel which came with TPMS and lugs!!!!!!!!!!!!

do you have to have the sensors? It seams like one is always malfunctioning anyway. My Tacoma light was always on even when the tires were properly inflated and my brand new Tundra is starting out that way too.

I'm one of those unfortunate souls that just purchased a set of take-offs. I can't believe the lug situation!

You can drive around without them. The light will be on. Most tire places won't take them off for legal reasons should you get in an accident.

Thanks!

not that i have ever heard. i dont even think there is a way to get them turned off with the techstream Toyota uses to mess with the computer internals. there has been way more discussions about this that i can repeat. here is a thread that gets into more detail about stuff...bottom line is you will have to figure out a way to use the TPMS or deal with the warning lights. (at least that is from the info i know about them).

If you can solder a circuit board, you could remove the LED from the board and replace it with a regular diode.

For 60 bucks the straps look like a cost-effective alternative. I wonder if anyone has had issues with the straps slipping and screwing up their tire balance.
