| Winter/Snow Tire recommendations? A new Tundra owner for almost a year now, I'm looking to go with a dedicated winter tire for the next few months. The stock BF Goodrich's didn't cut it in the snow last winter. I travel alot around VT and NY and also plow with the truck at my home in NY. Any recommendations? Not many options at the 270/65/R18 size it seems. Anyone know anything about the Hankook IPike tire? They make a size that will fit for about $165/tire installed Would love the Goodyear Silent Armors, but would need to take out a 2nd mortgage to afford them. Thanks for any and all input 2008 Doublecab SR5, 5.7, TRD |

| Hey Nick and welcome. You're right, there's not much to choose from in our size P275/65R18. We don't sell Hankooks and I don't see many around Plattsburgh so I really couldn't say how they work for people. We have in our warehouse (a day away) the Blizzak DM-V1. The Blizzak stands out from other winter tires due to its versatility. The new Tube Multi-Cell and NanoPro-Tech rubber compound help improve snow, ice, wet and dry performance by making the tire more flexible to changes in conditions. * RC Polymer: Improves snow and ice performance through use of specific NanoPro-Tech rubber compound. * Center Multi-Z Pattern: Improves snow and ice traction by improving drainage and increasing the biting edges. * 3-D Sipes: Enhance dry performance while maintaining snow, ice and wet traction. * Continuous Lug: Enhances snow traction and water evacuation. ![]() If you're in the Upstate NY area give me a call, Ill fix you up. 518-563-6400 Bill |

| Welcome nick, where abouts are you? You know you don't have to stick with 275/65. You can go with 255/70 for example and have a tire that is thinner and easier to plow through the snow. there are also the retreads with shells in the rubber for better ice traction |

| Thanks Appreciate the replies and input. The Blizzak is a well regarded tire and looks like a solid choice. Never considered a 255 size, but I'll look into tires in that size as well. Very familiar w/ Warren Tire also, great guys and great service there. I'll actually be there tomorrow in Q'bury getting snows put on my wife's car and will check into some of the tires mentioned. Like to see your truck sometime Bill and compare notes. Which shop do you work out of? |

Vollys right, you can use the 255's also, they're a little cheaper, but still few choices. Bill |

| Nick, being where you are, the blizzaks sound like a very good choice as long as you have them on other wheels. The rubber wears down quickly in warm weather and the handling gets bad. I have mine on winter wheels for my cars. I have a set of style steels that you can have at a good price. |

| Winter Tires Timing is everything, as the saying goes. I happened to perfectly time a very brief sale Warren Tire was having and picked up a set of the Silent Armors for about $300 off regular pricing (including an $80 rebate alone just using my Goodyear card). Those should take care of me for another 50K miles or so. Appreciate the offer on the extra set of wheels, but this keeps me from having to switch tires back and forth in the spring/fall. |

Funny thing is you're probably riding on my tires. The 275/65R18's are in short supply, at least in this area. I was going to put a set of those on but we sold all our stock and they only had a couple of sets left and I couldn't bring myself to take them. lol The guys that have read my posts know I'm a long time Goodyear Guy. I can't help it, they have been so good to our customers handling warranties that really are not the fault of the tire. This has resulted is unmeasurable goodwill for Warren Tire and Goodyear. But we recently added Bridgestone/Firestone to our family and I'm kind of itching to try some Firestones myself. They too seems to have a bit of a shortage in the 275's but I did manage to get my hands on a set of 6 ply Destination AT'S. I don't mind going up to a 6 ply. They're a little more durable plus they have a deep 16/32 tread. I havn't put them on yet. Who knows, if someone walks in soon and needs them I'll probably end up selling them LOL |

| It is weird they all have some very good tires along with some not so good within the brand names. The silent armors area great choice, but not other wranglers. if I had extra money, they would have been mine. I looked at them at a warren shop and then looked at the firestone destinations A/T's and they seem great too although destinations other tires don't appear all that hot. I am hoping the duellers A/T's, non revo are a great tire, although I have had good luck with the stock H/T's so far. If not, I may get the blizzaks in 255/70 and run them on the other wheels |
