Parking Brake Woes

Hey All,

Just had my first oil change on the Tundra (insisted on 0w20, and the tech said it was a smart choice!).

While I was there I asked them to adjust the parking brake. Since day 1 the parking brake has not worked. It depresses fully and locks down, but doesn't hold the truck at all. I can get out and push the truck if it's in neutral when the parking brake is fully applied.

They service manager there said they had two different techs looks at it and adjust it, but can't seem to make a difference at all. They told me I'd need to make another appointment to have a master technician look at the truck.

Anyone experience similar, or know of adjustment tricks with the parking brake? PtPetro.. you around?

thanks!!

I think it uses drums in the rear for the parking brake. I haven't had any problem with mine so far. I've parked on hills without a problem.

It does have discs all the way around. But the rear discs are supposed to also have a drum on the rotor that is just for the parking brake. Or at least that was my understanding of it.

The Parking brake uses small shoes inside a drum which is part of the brake disc. I believe there has been a post on the forum with the brake system information. I just checked my book where I keep copies of files that have been posted by Squid, JT, etc. Parking brake is drum type.

i remember the drum brakes of old could be adjusted by applying the parking brake, and then driving in reverse - any idea if this is the case with the tundra?

I just found out last night while hooking the boat up that the parking brake dosen't hold as it should. Backed up and was guided right under the boat by the wife, set the brake and it rolled back about 3 inches. So I geuss its time to have it checked. Not much of a incline, but she had to back it up and hold the foot brake while I hitched her up. It was like putting it in park on a hill with the roll.

I had to double check this as it was particularly odd. The other day after parking, the truck rolled forward, thing is, I was on an incline - It rolled uphill. I got out, looked at the level of the hood. In disbelief, I got back in, backed out of the parking spot and tried another parking spot alltogether - same thing.

Anyone else see this?

Tox is correct about our parking brake. It has the same system as our former Titans had.
