What is the "J" in wheel size?

Just curious, what does the "J" in wheel size 18x8J stand for? Also I have new wheels that are 18x9 (no "J"). Would that extra inch have any effect on the tires? Thanks.

The only "J" on a tire that I know of would be the speed rating. And if that is the case, then you don't want those tires. A "J" speed rating is for 62 mph.

Maybe this will help:

Thanks Tox, but I was referring to the wheels not the tires. See attachment concerning Tundra Tires and wheels.

Wow, that is a lot of tire and wheel information. I'll never have to ask about what the letters and numbers mean again. Thanks.
