Tundra Brake Thoughts?

So do you really notice that big of a difference in the stopping ability of the Tundra over your other vehicles or is this going to be more of a longevity bright side of the truck?

I do notice that I don't get that hard stop where the car is compressing the front shocks. It does seem to stop pretty quick. But I haven't really slammed on the brakes either. I previously drove cars and a small SUV so I can't really compare it to other trucks.

People have said that the truck ABS does cause some problem on gravel and dirt. I have not had any problems on gravel.

I haven't had any problems on gravel roads as of yet...but I have been trying like hell to say away from roads that could be construed as "off road"!

The breaks are excellent! They work without that knee jerking feeling when you hit the breaks. A hard beak doesn't send you through the windshield, but amazingly the truck stops on a dime. I cant compare the breaks on my former trucks...I forgot what it was like running stock. The bigger wheels that I ran with made for somewhat of a challenge when breaking.

All as I can say...thank god they didn't put the same breaks on this truck as they did with the FJ cruiser. OMG.... I thought I was gonna go flying through the windshield on more than one occasion!

No Fear

The Tundra Brakes are another feat of Engineering that will be left un-reconized and un-appreaciated by the average drivers.

Unless you have experience yourself in selecting and optimizing brake pads it is difficult to appreacite the remarkable characteristics of the Tundra combination that the Toyota engineers have settled on.

My experience going after the holy grail (perfect pad that does everything well) is as follows:
3-different types on my Porsche, 5-different types on my SHO and Jeep, 4-different types on my former F-150, 3-on the Mustang GT

My best stopping cars are the Porsche (pads squeal) and the LR3 (poor modulation, long pedal travel than a grabby full out stop)

I like the Tundra brakes the best: short pedal travel, easy to modulate
(like BMW) no dust, no noise

Pretty good brakes. I've been pulling a horse trailer without the brake controller and you can hardly tell the diffrence unless you have to stop to quick. The trailer will push the truck a bit then, but the brakes are still up to the job. The compression brakeing from the tranny downshift when you apply the brakes a great feature. A real aid for crooked rode driving, which we have everywhere in East Tennessee.

I didn't notice the efficiency of the Tundra brakes until I drove my wife's Trailblazer. Talk about being used to something - the braking ability (at least in my Tundra) is amazing and I have not noticed any problems on gravel.
I think the brakes are another great feature of the redesign!

I like to think of the Tundra's brakes as confidence insipiring. They feel a little more stout than on the Titan and they produce very little if any dust.

Good job Toyota.

After dealing with the Titan brakes for several years I am extremely pleased with the brakes on the Tundra. The fact that you don't have to think about them says it all.

Roadfly made a video about the brakes, Here's the link..................

Remember the brake commercial shown during the Super Bowl?

YouTube - Toyota Tundra See Saw

I am very satisfied with the brakes so far even when pulling the travel trailer.
