Apparently these sensors have to be replaced every 5 years or so. And you do have to program the new sensors into your computer.

If you are just replacing one sensor, then be sure to write down the numbers in the computer before you try to add the new sensor. To add the new sensor, you have to erase all 4 sensors and then reenter all of them into the computer. So if you don't write down the 3 existing ones, then you'll be removing the 3 existing tires to get the numbers off those old sensors.

I was looking for exactly which ecu controls this. I was interested in disabling the ecu like 808ninja did on a 06 model. That way you don't have to worry about it anymore and can run what ever wheels you want without sensors. Otherwise it is the wheel barrow tire mod.

If you look at this PDF file you'll see that the TPWS ecu looks like it's behind the glove box.

Without the sensors in the tires, you just have a light that stays on in the dash. Much like what ThirdHorseman has right now since her tires don't have sensors in them. So you can install tires without the sensors right now if you don't mind the light staying on.

I saw a post recently either on this site or possibly "the other Tundra site" that has a way to disable the TPWS. I think I have a printout of this someplace if you or anyone else is interested. Seemed very simple from what I recall.
